Academic programs for excellence

The POE funds are distributed across the four campuses through a proposal process administered by the Office of the Provost. A study was conducted in examining programs funded between and It is important to note that budget constraints in FY and FY resulted in no POE awards, and, as a consequence, it was anticipated there would be diminished impacts compared to the previous study.

Overall the POE investment has been very successful in building programs that led to new academic programs and enhanced research.

Programs of Academic Excellence. The Office of Academic Enhancement provides services that support a smooth transition to college with the goal of maximizing each student's opportunities at the University of Miami and beyond. A four-year tuition only scholarship awarded to 50 academically accomplished high school students from backgrounds that are underreppresented in higher education. Full scholarship awarded to students based on academic merit, financial need, and a history of overcoming significant adversity.

A full scholarship that provides outstanding African American, American Indian, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline.

Find the resources you need, when you need them. Interested students then submit an application, on time, and are then invited to take the test with other interested students in one sitting. Once students are tested, scores are then compared with students of the same grade level, and only the highest scores per grade level are accepted into the program.

Failure to follow the application deadline or testing procedures will also disqualify students from joining APEX for the following school year. The number of students accepted per grade level each year does vary slightly, depending on how students performed overall. In general, approximately 15 new 8th and 9th grade students and 5 new 10th grade students are invited to join each year. Overall, this consistently keeps approximately 95 students of grades in the APEX program each year.
