Play command and conquer generals zero hour on windows 7

Good News - Have just successfully managed to get it working, and it IS Windows 7 that causes the problem, specifically it's to do with access permissions to folders - Windows 7 blocks access to folders that Generals uses to run. You need to create a text file using notepad and save it into this folder. However, you must click 'save as' and change the type drop-down box from text file.

Then save the file as 'options. This is simply how the game remembers what options you picked music volume, brightness and the like and you can change them once the game is running using the options menu. It might also be worth making sure no files are "Read-Only" in that folder.

Then change the game's compatibility mode by right clicking on the game in the start menu, clicking on properties and then the Compatibility tab. I used the "Change settings for all users" button at the bottom and changed to Windows XP SP3 , as well as checking the "Run as administrator box". Hey presto! In fairness, I haven't tried online multiplayer yet, just a few skirmishes. Generals itself works fine but Zero Hour just quits after the splash screen. I have the latest version 1.

I have tried all the ini file tricks and running it in XP compatibility mode that those don't seem to work. I haven't tried the XP compatibility mode yet, which would basically virtualize an XP instance to run the game. I guess that if you have a good machine you could set up a virtual machine with XP and try it from there Download Windows XP mode for Windows 7. Sign up to join this community. My problem is that generals minimize to tray after start-up just like ScummVM does with windows 7 and thei have no solution yet to that. I've tried the options. The game isn't hanging, though The DVD is in the computer and it's a paid-for copy.

I've seen a couple others have this problem, but as yet have not heard of a fix. My brother had the same problem on his PC. As I have found so far, doing any of the fixes listed above will not work. In fact, you won't want to do them at all. Doing them will result in the faliure to read the disk.

I'm trying to figure out why Bink Video won't function correctly, and when I get a solution, I'll post back. However, unless you're overly fond of the intro videos to the missions or the battle on the title screen, you won't really notice much of a difference.

Not yet. Technically there won't be a solution because the platform will continue to change I created txt file and renamed without thinking windows was hiding filextentions and my file was named options. You can't blame them.

Screwing around with the system isn't really a good thing. Especially since. You need to be a member in order to leave a comment. Sign up for a new account in our community. It's easy!
